PhD topic: Storm Prediction Using Deep Learning (DL) and Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI)

Extreme weather events like storm is a rare but destructive event. However, using Deep Learning (DL) to understand the spatiotemporal characteristics of this meteorological phenomenal is paramount to saving lives and provides timely mitigation measure against the climate change. One of the goals of my research is to develop DL models capable of improving storm prediction using novel Explainable AI techniques to ensure interpretability by enabling decision-makers understand how storm predictions are generated. This research will also analyse and assess the potential impact of climate change on storm patterns, focusing on long-term trends in storm frequency and intensity.
